Car Rental in Costa Rica tips to avoid a nightmare

As everything in world there are good things and bad things, pros and cons. During the years in this industry we saw terrible stories about Car Rental in Costa Rica, not only about the companies but about the customers.

Today I´m going to share with you about companies
Big mistake is to pay attention only to the rate, Huge Mistake!
Many customers think they got an excellent rate and they never see value.
They never ask how old the car is, how many miles it has, how many assistance offices the company has around.
They care only for the price and where is the convenience, do the car rental assist you from the terminal, do they leave or pick the car in other places at no extra cost?
Important question what is the mandatory insurance going to cover?
Is there a deposit at pick up?
some internet rates come without insurance or the minimum that is the TPL “third parties liability” and you´ll be liable of the 100% of the vehicle.

Asking question is in our opinion the only way to make sure you´ll have a wonderful time.

Tips for installing the car seat for children

Tips for installing the car seat for children

While installing the car seat for children is essential to safeguard its security. Meet tips for good use of it and the types of chair in the world.

There are three types of car seats for children depending on the age and weight of your baby.

Chairs exclusively for infants:
It is necessary to drink between 8.5 and 10.5 kg. and 9 months to 1 year.
It is installed facing backwards.
They come with a harness of three or five points.
They are removable, or base, you can remove the chair and, after tying up your baby in the chair, you simply have to secure it in the base again.

Convertible seats:
Is used by children up to 18 kg. And three years aproximately.
Installed facing forward.
Most come with adjustable buckles so you can change the tapes for a growing baby.

Booster seat:
It is for children up to 36 kg. and 10 years old.
Must be used with a seat belt and is looking forward position.
The goal is to raise your child so that the seat belt fits properly and help protect your trunk and head.

Basic tips on the use of child seats:

Read the manufacturer’s instructions on installing and save them for possible future reference well.
Read the owner’s manual of your car and, if you have not, go to the dealer to advise you on installation.
Always install the seat in the back seat. It is the safest place for a possible collision.
Choose chairs that have a button that when activated allows immediately free the child since, in case of accident, those seconds are vital.

The child should be tight to the chair, must fit one finger between the strap and the child’s chest.
If your child will travel in two or more cars we suggest you install a chair in each car. Install and uninstall it so often is not recommended.

The seat belt should fit snugly to your child and do not exercise any friction. Note that you must tighten the belt as your child grows.

The metal seat components should not be in contact with the skin because, when heated, can burn.

Car seats for infants get dirty, so you must select it easier to clean.

Babies born before 37 weeks may require special treatment to travel safely in a car.

What is the ABS?

ABS stands after which the DLD is, the anti-lock braking system or, in German Antiblockiersystem. I say it in German, for the first patent for a system that would prevent lock brakes seems to be owned by the German manufacturer Bosch in 1936. However, the first to use anti-lock brakes (aviation) was Gabriel Voisin in 1929, so We take as inventor. Moreover, until the mid-60s could not implement this system for cars.

The problem is solve the ABS is to prevent the wheels from locking during hard braking and, therefore, adhesion and braking stability and miss consequence, the braking distance is multiplied. And she also multiply the chances of having an accident.

I think the ABS is the security system that has contributed in favor of human life, along with a seat belt and airbag. The ABS is a system that reacts to indications lock pressure regulating pneumatic braking system without the driver intervenes. As a result, the tires are not blocked and the driver, at all times, maintains control over the wheel.

Emergency braking and cases where the ABS is not used.
The situation is as follows: the best braking, the most effective is when, given engine speed, the force exerted on the braking system is maximum without any of the elements that contribute to braking to stop working properly. The limiting factor is the tire. Although it sounds a little “hard” lock occurs when the coefficient of friction between tire and road acquires a lower maximum adhesion value.

At that point, we no longer have control over braking and steering wheel. It’s a menace. This situation occurs especially in emergency braking, times when we can not have the tactful enough to regulate the braking pressure and regain sufficient adhesion to keep slowing: the system does it for us, acting independently at each wheel and checking whether the speed of rotation of the wheel is the one that should be according to the current speed. If the rotational speed is lower than expected, applying too much braking power and the system “senses” block, which reduces the braking pressure to avoid the situation. This, friends, saves lives. And many.

When should not carry the ABS enabled? In conditions of snow or loose terrain where adherence is minimal (loose gravel, dust, etc.). Under such conditions is extremely easy block the tires, so that the work piece-ABS considerably lengthening the braking distance. Without ABS, the tires will be blocked, but also “open furrow” in snow or gravel, helping to find a more adherent “soil” and providing us life.

Another situation where it is not convenient to use ABS is in high level motorsport. For example, in Formula 1. The reason? ABS, like traction control, makes slower cars (lengthens braking distances), but that’s another story and should be told elsewhere.

How to use a 4wd gear

How to use a 4wd gear

Drive a 4×4 is winning in safety, strength and confidence when transiting through difficult roads. However, how to activate the double traction or just know in what situations should be used may be a mystery to those who have no experience.

Here we solve the most common questions:

1. Why are there two levers?
Most have two levers 4×4. One handles the traditional gearbox, either manual or automatic. The second is the “transfer case” that defines the type of drive chosen by the driver as the road ahead. H is the High (High) and L is Low (Low).

2. What is H2 and what situations is it for?
The position H2 is commonly used. In this position the vehicle has traction on the rear wheels only. It is used in route, city and dry asphalt.

3. In what situations should use H4 and how active?
The H4 drive can be used on gravel, sand, wet asphalt, and any other situation where there may be loss of adhesion. To connect must pass the lever H2 to H4, it can be activated in motion, but should move in a straight line less than 80 km / h without depressing the brake pedal. It is not advisable to do so faster for the life of the transfer case.

4. Is there a speed limit on H4? How is disabled?
No speed limit for H4. To disconnect, it is only necessary to move the lever H4 to H2.

5. In what situations is useful L4 transmission?
The “low” or “reducing” provides more strength, more torque to the four wheels. It transforms into a little tractor. It is ideal for use in heavy mud, in sand dunes or if a trailer is necessary because it gives a lot of control to the truck. But to give a lot of strength takes speed, you can reach a maximum of 50 or 60 km / h. You can pass normally but changes will not take speed.

6. How L4 wheel drive is connected?
It requires the brake van. The main transmission must be in neutral (neutral automatic) and the gear box transfer to L4 moves.

7. How L4 is disconnected?
Again it is necessary to stop zero, place the transmission in neutral (Neutral for automatic) before returning to H2 and H4 as needed.

The Turrialba volcano made a new eruption on Friday the 24th at 3:40 am as reported by the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI).

“It was a rash with strong emission of ash, residents of some areas of the Central Valley reported falling ash and sulfur smell,” Said the OVSICORI.

According to Javier Pacheco, volcanologist, activity this morning lasted about 20 minutes and was similar or even “slightly larger” that happened yesterday Thursday April , the 23rd at 4:20 pm
“The activity presented emission of ash, plus gas column is not much raised, but was dispersed by the wind to the Central Valley,” said Pacheco.

The specialist added that the seismicity in the colossus remains the same, ie with significant intensity. Eruptions on Thursday forced the Juan Santamaria International Airport to close for 10 hours, and it was not certain that planes travel along the track that had residues of volcanic material.
